Breaking the Silence on Men's Mental Health

Breaking the Silence on Men's Mental Health

June marks Men’s Mental Health Month, an important time dedicated to raising awareness about the mental health challenges that men face every day. This month serves as a reminder that mental health matters and that everyone, regardless of gender, deserves support, understanding, and access to resources.

Why Men’s Mental Health Matters

While all of us can struggle with mental health issues, the statistics surrounding men’s mental health are particularly alarming and highlight a growing crisis that is not to be be ignored:

  • One in five men in the UK dies before the age of 65 due to mental health reasons

  • Four in five suicides are by men, with suicide being the leading cause of death for men under the age of 35

  • In 2021, there were 6,319 registered suicides in the UK, and 507 were from the construction industry alone

  • Drivers of work lift trucks had a suicide rate 85% higher than the national average, while van drivers were 25% higher, and drivers of large goods vehicles were 20% higher

  • A staggering 95% of UK farmers under the age of 40 report that poor mental health is one of the most serious hidden issues in agriculture today

A Global Issue

While these statistics are UK-based, men’s mental health is a global concern. Rates may differ by country, but the stigma surrounding men speaking up is universal. In many cultures, outdated expectations of masculinity stop men from seeking help making the problem even harder to see, but just as serious.

Men’s Mental Health Month is a reminder that this is a worldwide issue, and change starts with open, honest conversations wherever you are.

What We’re Doing to Support Men’s Mental Health

As a company, we are committed to creating a culture where mental health is prioritised, supported, and openly discussed.

Encouraging open dialogue: We promote safe spaces for men to share their experiences without fear of judgment.

Confidential support access: Our team members have direct access to professionals within the business who can offer support.

Leadership by example: Our leaders are trained to model vulnerability, listen actively, and offer genuine support.

We understand that showing strength isn’t about suffering in silence, it's about knowing when to reach out and having the tools to do so.

Where to Find Support in Dubai

If you’re based in Dubai and looking for support with your mental health and well-being, here are some organisations that offer specialised help for men:

Mancave Project - A community-driven initiative providing safe spaces for men to connect and share without judgment.

The LightHouse Arabia - Offers a wide range of psychological services, including support groups tailored for men.

Lifeworks Dubai - Provides therapy, counseling, and well-being programs focused on mental health.

OpenMinds Center - A multidisciplinary wellness center offering mental health assessments and therapeutic services.

Men’s Mental Health Month is not just about awareness, it's about action. Whether it’s checking in on a friend, starting a conversation at work, or seeking professional help, every step matters. It’s time to challenge outdated stereotypes, break the silence, and build a culture where men feel seen, heard, and supported.

If you’re struggling, know this: You are not alone. Help is out there and reaching for it is a sign of strength, not weakness.
